Alright Already

I did it. Not quite as daunting as Wil's finger hovering over the Ironman entry, but still daunting. To me.

(Jingle Bell Run, at evil Hain's point.)

(Oooh, and look at all the free crap and discounts I get!)

So, now, I need you all to put your heads together and tell me what my race strategy should be. (Let the whining begin!) My primary goal is 1) to finish, and 2) to not run out of steam, and 3) Not to walk. (OK, that is three goals.)

So, do I run til I can't, and then walk? Do I plan to run/walk on some kind of schedule? (I don't wanna walk!) (No offense Nancy!!)) I won't have run farther than four miles by Dec. 11.

And don't tell me that if I can do four I can do two more! (OK, actually, yes, please, do tell me that.)

Should I slow down to 11:something minute miles for the first 3 miles, then try to pick it up?

This is worse than planning for the marathon.

Almost.

!!!!!! heh. i'm literally Laughing Out Loud.

so easily we forget what we once so easily were capable of.

seeing as how i've got so many races under my belt (??!! all of two) i say.... run the first two slow. run the middle to a bit faster. then run in between slow and fast for the last two.

not much of a strategy, but it IS a plan!!

good on you for signing up! way to go JEANNNNNNNNNNNNNE!

You can SO do it! That is the flattest course you are EVER going to find (my previous 10K PR was on that course). I say make a run:walk plan, and if you don't feel that you need to walk, well then don't!!! :-) Good luck! I don't think I'll be in town that weekend or I'd run it with you.

Running red sox: THANK YOU for saying it! I still don't believe it, but thanks for saying it!

And Nancy; you're so right, I can just run sloooowllly; I surely know how to do that!

Susie: You are a machine!

Jeanne - here is the conventional wisdom:
1). If you can run 3 you can run 6. You can run 4 so you are in fine, fine shape

2). Go out slow (try to keep it at no more than a 10:30) and then pick up at the 1/2 way.

Here's what I have to say:

YOU GO GIRL! I have every confidence in you because you got past the f-bomb on your lips and hit the trail and did not cut your run short for any reason - and you had plenty running through your head.

You are my hero!! Really - I'm not kidding! I'm so inspired I think I might go for a run tomorrow and go no fewer than 3 miles. I'll let you know how it goes.
