The Longest Month

Is it me, or does this seem like a never-ending (NaBloPoMo) month??

Maybe it's just me.

Something unfortunate happened today at work. By mistake, I sent a snarky e-mail about someone. I thought I was sending it to my friend, someone with whom I occasionally snark about work, and other things, but no. Instead, in my dazed state, I send it to the person himself.

This person immediately called me, was furious, yelled at me (rightly so), and will likely never trust me again.

But worse, I've hurt his feelings.

What's the solution? I apologized via e-mail, and I will again in person. But the damage has been done and I fear it's severe.

I can only hope I've learned my lesson about being snarky about other people. I can be a real ass sometimes.

Oh man, that really bites. I think that's happened to us all, you'd think we'd all learn.

ugh, i'm sorry. every time something like that happens, i think that i'm going to be completely reformed...and sometimes it's true...but we're human and we all slip up sometimes. best of luck in your reparations.

It sucks when it happens, but ya move on. I did it once - but actually never mentioned the person by name - so I quickly just e-mailed the accidental recipient and made it clear I was talking about someone else. He fell for it..which kept me from ticking him off.

Don't fret too much - life happens.

I am always confused how e-mails get sent to the wrong person (because I know plenty of people who have done this too!). I want to avoid this - is it that pesky autocomplete thing in the To: field? I have called the wrong person on my cell phone, but they had the same name...

You may have to go running Sunday morning instead of church just so the lightning strike doesn't damage the church.

i've had my own mishaps like that. now i look at the address line. look again. looook again.

words do hurt. i still cringe about a note passed that was read by the victim. 7th grade and i still cringe.

but be realistic. you're (we're) not going to love everyone. learn the power of random nicknames. they're brilliant.
it's tough. we need to vent, but it can hurt. sigh.
just say that katy did it.

but i disagree with david. protect yourself by hiding in the church. don't go running unless you go from church to church to synagogue to mosque. cover all bases and carry no metal.

ouch for sure. I sent one to a co-worker about an abrasive client except that it went to the client -- scream heard round the world -- he actually emailed me back about it and asked me what I meant by it...it was vague enough that I was able to pretend that I was referring to something else. I just kept the response very light and airy like I had no idea that it was a negative aimed at him...of course that is what he wanted to believe anyway. Ego.

I have made the same mistake via e-mail AND via text message. The lesson leanred is ALWAYS CHECK to whom you are sedning something. Looks like we've both learned it the hard way.
