What Brought on That Rant Was

Last Saturday's brick, at which I biked 16 miles and then ran 3. Only I really wanted to RUN 3 miles, and I ended up walking at mile 2.5 on and off to the end.

Before I gave in to walking, one chick actually ran up beside me and said "I'll run with you, you're running a good pace."

Wow, what a compliment! Any NORMAL person would be thrilled. Instead, I thought, oh she's in for a surprise. Because I had already decided to start walking at the corner. And then I saw someone else start walking. And when I see someone else start walking, it really sucks the life outta me.

Why do I let what other people do affect me? Why can't I be pleased with what I did, which was better than what I did last time??

I know why: I'm mental!!

NOD UPDATE:
Today Number One Daughter left on her European Odyssey: Frankfurt, Sevilla, Portugal, Croatia, Istanbul, Greece. Here's a travel tip for those of you living or visiting Washington, D.C.: There are TWO airports here and they are miles apart and it's a REALLY GOOD THING to know which one your plane is leaving from.

Strike a pose.

Bye-bye!

Ponytail flying amIgonnamakeit???

MORE SIGNS OF INSTABILITY UPDATE:
Monday I plan on riding 56 miles, up this. I'm pretty scared, but my tri peeps talked me into it.

...includes just about the meanest climb you will find in this section of the country. This ride is NOT for the faint hearted!

If I make it, I'll have mad bragging rights.

Oh, Mount Weather! I've been dying to give it a try, but alas I'm in taper mode and will have to wait till after Patriots for that kind of fun. Can't wait for the report on that epic adventure. Best of luck!

with that beautiful daughter, you own bragging rights! Besides, I'd never try a climb like that - so brag away.

No more stinkin' thinkin' damnit! You are not mental - you just have a long history of trashing yourself. Just don't!!!

That climb looks awesome! Here's a hint - when you are getting tired and think you can't handle it anymore stand up and just mash down on the pedals. Shift a couple of cogs smaller in the back and keep just focusing on pushing down on the pedals - don't worry about the 'up' stroke. Then sit down and click back to your easiest gear and just keep going.

Good luck!

NOD traveling lite I see. Hey, I piled on 2 3/4 biking miles yesterday! From Gallery Place (no bikes at Judiciary Sq. again) to Foggy Bottom. You should have seen me attack that hill by the National Press Club. And I outbiked (outran?) a jogger over at GWU. What's next? A brick? What's a brick? I love this forward-motion-faster-than-running-while-sitting-down thing. Yay SmartBikes!

Riding 56 miles this weekend means you'll be more than ready for a half Ironman next year. I'm just sayin'. :-)

Nice hill. Good luck with that. I hope you ran with that girl...that is what you need...to get pulled out of the "I can't do" to the "I can do" way of thinking....if your mind is willing your legs will be too.

Jeanne, who's going to bail you out when you flat now? J/K. :)

You need to get the mental stuff out of your head with this running. I think you need to focus on more positive. Keep your feet moving and don't stop! Even if it's a slow jog.

Have a great climb! You can do it!

That's why I don't count Dulles as a DC airport. It's too damn far away!

Now that is an ambitious ride. Good luck!

You'll have an excellent time in Mt. Weather and stay focused on the few feet just in front of your tire...don't focus on the top. try to keep your pedal cadence up. Once you hit the "bunker" its mostly down hill from there...

I could so roll my eyes and relate to the mistaken airport. Times like that you really wonder if you got your money's worth out of their college education.
