New! Improved! Now Sugar Free! Again!

I was minding my own business the other night, obsessing about weight, triathlons, my bike, and other stuff, when I got an e-mail from the lovely Danielle, asking if I was still off sugar.

I can understand; it's not like I expect people to read my naval-gazing musings every single day or my extensive food consumption reporting or anything. Or remember exactly when it was that I fell off the sugar-free wagon (that would be Feb. 8, 2007). Or when I got on it (Dec. 18, 2006).

ANYWAY, Danielle naively asked me if I was still sugar free. Err, no. After several more e-mails we hatched a plan. She's gained a few pounds over the winter; and I seem to have mysteriously gained 13 pounds by working out more than ever. Danielle wants to drop five pounds in a month (totally do-able). And I have a graduation coming up! May 18! Number One Daughter's! And it's entirely possible that I just might see some ex-in-laws who haven't seen or talked to me in 19 years.

So, obviously, I have no choice. I have SIX WEEKS to drop the pounds. No ifs, ands or butts...

So, the plan is this...

Give up sugar (so far I'm on day FOUR! How are you doing Danielle?) Eat more fruits, veggies, and protein. And, do a little tri-training. OK, a LOT of tri-trainng!

That's the plan! And I have Danielle to thank for it. (Back off, she's a scientist.)

What I want to know is: when did normal stuff get all this extra sugar put in it? Gees! It's everywhere! It's been four days without the Pepper...

Go for it! Trying to eat food w/o sugar is like us hypertension sorts trying to find food in America that isn't loaded with sodium. Ricky Williams, the intelligent and quirky running back for the Miami Dolphins, had a very funny thing to say about the sugar problem. As he was serving his umpteenth suspension from the NFL for marijuana usage, a reporter asked him if he was worried about his addiction to a drug. He said yes, indeed, and he was working very hard to break his sugar addiction.

Is this like refined sugar or all sugar?

How about this plan: You and I are going to be at the same graduation with the same outlaws so why don't we gain as much weight as we possibly can and see if anyone notices?! Or, I guess, we could lose as much weight as we possibly can and see if anyone notices? You decide.

Its mysterious to me why when we increase training we seem to pack on extra pounds. I finally decided in Jan. (before my cruise) that it was time, once again, to do the diet cleanup and hope to lose 15 pounds before the cruise. It worked, and I have now actually dropped another couple. It can't hurt me to lose 5 more in fact! So stick with it. Its not easy all the time. Longer workouts means more calorie needs. Just don't eat the junk, cut out the caffeine and alcohol if that pertains, and keep track of the calories you consume and exercise off. I'll bet if you keep track for a week you will see what you need to do. Good luck!

You can always send a stunt double to commencement. It's not like you'll see these people again before 2027.
