Signup-itis

I am now a card-carrying member! Woot. Their New Triathlete Program opens—and closes—on Feb. 1. They can take only 125 people, and at Sunday's orientation meeting, there were probably 300+ crammed into a very small room. The club seems very well run and is apparently the largest tri club in the—well, somewhere. (I wasn't paying attention to that—I was very busy scanning the room to see if I was the oldest one there.) The goal race for the NTP is the New Jersey State Triathlon, July 27, where there's a sprint and an Olympic distance. If I'm feeling frisky, I might just try the Olympic. But July is so far away, I'll think about that later...

Also, no thanks to ACTIVE.COM, I finally got around their b.s. system and managed to sign up for the Wirefly National Half Marathon, March 29, which you just might remember, I had to qualify for.

In other news, I've been eating everything in sight. Today I brought all my food for the day to work, so I could avoid eating crap, and had finished ALL OF IT it by 1 p.m. Luckily, little miss r.p. was standing by to subtly suggest that I MIGHT NOT WANT TO KEEP ALL my food in my office.

Like, try putting it in the kitchen.

There's always tomorrow.

Sigh.

Wow - you're serious about this Tri stuff huh? Well good for you, but I hope it doesn't dilute all your running adventures and reports!

When you train a lot, you eat a lot! No problem!
BTW have you had your iron checked? I'm always starving when mine goes into free-fall.
I was going to write a response to your last post along the lines of past the servo, the supermarket, the bowls club, the footy oval, the monumental mason, the auto electrician, the car yard, the suit factory and the pub but I was too busy imagining I lived in glamorous DC

Good luck getting in that tri club - it will be so great if you do! Training with other people is the bomb and it's okay to be the oldest and slowest. At least it feels okay to me 'cause that's my job in our club.

Cool! I'm kinda-sorta-a-member of the DCTriClub. I don't know what you call someone who has an account on thier forums, occasionally goes to training events, gets the newsletter - but doesn't actually pay any dues. Well...that's me. :)

It's a cool club though, even if you can't get into the NTP - there's a ton of us DCTriClub folks who blog that will help ya along the way.

cool! put it in your wallet with a star next to it. whip it out and see if people will let you toss their home. not ethical, but you know it'd be fun.

Start with the sprint. I'm not trying to discourage you or say you won't be able to do it, but the Olympic swim alone will be much harder than what you are used to, especially for the first one. (You will need to deal with the open water panic, so why not get in and out as quickly as possible?) The other reason I suggest the sprint is so you can get a feel for each event AND the transition. And you will be able to push harder in a shorter event, giving you a better sense of satisfaction in finishing. Once you get used to the whole tri thing, an Olympic distance would be next. Good luck! A NJ triathlon sounds great. My daughter lives there, but I have a 1/2 IM race on Aug. 2 and then vacation after.

You're trying a tri! How much fun is that! Someday, someday... I don;t know jack about what I'm talking about, but I'd say do the olympic. You know, just for shits & giggles.
