Have We Finally Gone Too Far?

I give you:
The Marathon Dress. (Note: I had to change the link to a main one since the one to the dress wasn't working. You'll figure it out.)

Oh geesh. I don't like where this trend is going at all! What's next? Makeup for running? I take comfort in the fact that I don't have to 'dress up' when I go out for a run.

ZERO TUMMY COMPRESSION? Obviously they haven't seen my BLUBBER.

There, I said it again. BLUBBER BLUBBER BLUBBER. :-)

Okay, I'm done now. We shall speak no more of this.

I just came to comment on the zero tummy compression thing, but nancy beat me to it. I sorta like, and definitely need, some compression. I really don't like feeling my belly jiggle when I run.

I guess that would be applicable if your car broke down and you had to run to a cocktail reception...and you had your running shoes in the trunk.

ugh! WHY CAN'T WOMEN JUST BE ATHLETES WITHOUT HAVING TO LOOK GOOD???!!! For the love of God - I just want to run. I want to get sweaty and gross and feel really good. I do not want to think about whether or not every random man in the world will find me attractive by evening wear standards WHILE I'M RUNNING! After I'm done and I shower I might think about it but when I am running I want everyone to think "That's hot!" because it is.

OK 21st century mom said exactly what I wanted to say. Why do I have to look "good" while running. What next... strappy running shoes? Please. I refuse to comply. I'm going to continue with; no makeup,no jewlry, a baseball cap, unbrushed hair and if I forget to shave my legs the night before so be it. Ditto on pulling my shorts out of the hamper too. Gosh I sound like a mess don't I?

That's hot. :)

Jon:
Please, show us how to wear it correctly. We'll donate money to the charity of our choice if you do.

Not if we all looked like Nicole DeBoom in them. I saw her at IM AZ...she looked really cute in it (wasn't racing tho...just pushing her wares!)

Running dress....i'm gonna stop, point, and laugh at the first female I run by that has one on...that's pathetic...

Besides that, I like to pull my shirt up and wipe my runny nose on it...how can i do that in a dress?? I'm just as much of a mess as M and want to keep it that way...

okay, so I don't think that just cuz I'm female, I need to wear skirts/dresses etc., and I'm not really down with the running skirt (cuz what's the dif between that and shorts, other than "I'm a girly girl," but...that dress looks awfully comfy!!!

The dress looks exactly like many tennis outfits. I swear I think sport-clothes companies are finally getting wind of the fact that there are many more runners out there than tennis players, and so they're just ripping "tennis" off the labels of these dresses and calling them "marathon" dresses.

True Bex...ie. the running skirt

A couple sets of tennis then some trail running..I guess that could be considered cross training...or maybe a new duathlon

I conducted a "cute or stupid?" survey among the young males at work, and their consensus was stupid.

I was told that "short shorts and a form-fitting top" were very much preferred.

FYI.

I think they're great. If you look good in skirts, why wear shorts?

I just remembered another problem with this dress. When I get really hot and sweaty towards the end of a run I take off my shirt. I don't care what I look like in a sports bra - I'm over heated and I need air on my skin. What would I do with this dress but suffer. Just say NO!

tortaluga said...

i hate to say this, because my thoughts on the importance of looking "cute" while running echo those above. but... i think it would be really comfortable to run in, if one had, say, no breasts or stomach. it looks cool (as in breezy) and you wouldn't have to deal with waistbands, and shirts riding up. since i do not have this body type, however, i will not be testing it out...

Stick to shorts and crop tops/sports bras girls. And I really like to follow the Pony sticking out of the baseball cap as I run along. (Ducking the inevitable blows heading my way) :)

Jeez, those skirts/dresses are causing a awful lot of debate. Personally I think the skirts are cute - and if anyone doesn't want to wear them, you don't have to, so what's the problem?

Mind, I agree with Jeanne, I'm not sure about the dress.

But most of all, I can't wait to see the pictures of Mark in his pink skirt.

we have a lot of mixed opinions here don't we?? Personally, I like the dress, I couldn't wear it because of boobie and stomach issues, but it's still cute. And I like the skirts. I want one. But everyone is entitled to thier own opinion.

Anne said...

I personally like having loose body parts compressed when I run and when I watch others run. But the dress is cute is that's your thing. I've seen people run in far worse.

you. have got. to be kidding. me.

built in bra? uh.. YEAH! if you've got an A cup maybe. these girls over here need more support than that...

i agree that its cute (if youre built like a boy) but if i saw someone out on the trails in this.. i'm with Amy.

i'd point and laugh.

Add my vote to the "Seems kinda silly" column. It just seems like it would be problematic, for reasons that many of the women here have posted.

Now, for the record - my sister-in-law applied make-up before running in the Disney half-marathon, "just in case."

Mark said...

I wouldn't even wear one. ;-)

The dress is terrible. I saw several of them a couple of weeks ago at CMM. They are NOT flattering! I might as well run in a nightgown! It was gross.
