I live in Chicago ala FLATFLAT land and I just about crawl whenever I have to run in a new place that has a hill in it! Have you looked at the socks that are double layers? I can't think of what they are called, but those might help and I really like them. There are two styles. CoolMax (or something) which are thinner and then Running which are thickerish, but still thin.
